Surfer Archbold Wins Pro Event in Santa Cruz

Matt Archbold of San Clemente fought off a challenge from Santa Cruz locals to win the Body Glove Steamer Pro surfing event Sunday at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz.

Archbold, who won four consecutive heats to advance to the final, defeated Peter Mel and Nathan Acker, both of Santa Cruz, and won $5,700. It was Archbold’s third victory on the Professional Surfing Assn. of America tour.
