BUENA PARK : Initial OK Is Given ‘Flyer Parties’ Ban
The City Council on Monday gave initial approval to an ordinance prohibiting residents from charging admission to neighborhood parties.
The gatherings are often known as “flyer parties” because word of the parties circulates through printed notices distributed at local schools and other public places. This mass advertising often results in hundreds of people converging on a home, resulting in noise, traffic and other problems.
In the past, the Police Department could not take action until the party was out of control. The new ordinance would give police the authority to stop the parties before they occur.
The ordinance prohibits such parties in any residential area of the city. Violations of the law are punishable by fines of up to $1,000 or six months in jail.
