The Pittsburgh Pirates assigned infielder Jeff Richardson and outfielder Cecil Espy to triple-A Buffalo.
Espy, 27, finished second in the American League in stolen bases with 45 for Texas in 1989, but divided the 1990 season between the Rangers and their Oklahoma City farm club.
Richardson, 25, hit .250 with no home runs and one RBI in 20 at-bats this spring.
