Former Denver Nugget coach Doug Moe is downplaying speculation that he and San Antonio Spur Coach Larry Brown are preparing a bid to buy the Nuggets.

“We don’t know if the Nuggets are for sale,” Moe said. “We haven’t talked to them. Everything is really preliminary, but at least we know we can get the financing.”

But Moe said he and Brown, his former teammate and a longtime friend, haven’t discussed any of the particulars of a possible bid.

Moe also refused to speculate that he might try to return to coach the Nuggets, a position he held for 10 years before being fired in September.

Denver majority owner Bob Wussler said the team is not officially for sale, but he will listen to offers.
