Longeway, who has been baffling batters since her freshman year when she helped Kennedy to the Southern Section Division 3-A title, continued her pitching mastery in the Woodbridge tournament Saturday. Longeway (9-1), who has only allowed one earned run this season, allowed only a first-inning bunt single in a 6-0 victory over Westminster in the quarterfinals. She struck out 16 and faced the minimum 21 batters. Later that day, in the semifinals, she struck out eight in a four-hit victory over La Mirada. It was Kennedy’s ninth consecutive victory after the Fighting Irish had lost their first game of the season, 1-0, to Ocean View in 11 innings. Longeway was grateful for the recent support from the offense. “It was the first game we have played (this season) that we hit good,” she said.

Other top performers:

Stephanie Noffsinger, who pitched a no-hitter and struck out 14 for Huntington Beach in a 10-inning, 1-0 loss to Trabuco Hills.

Shelley Taylor, an Edison runner who won the 800- and 1,600-meter races at the Mt. Carmel Invitational in San Diego.
