Whitlock, Abdi Head County Team in Basketball Tournament

Loara High School’s Tes Whitlock, who set an Orange County scoring record with 68 points against Saddleback this past season, heads a county team that will participate in the third Pump Discovery Basketball Classic beginning Friday at Fullerton College.

Among Whitlock’s teammates on the county team are Mustapha Abdi (Huntington Beach), Brett McCorkle (Capistrano Valley), Josh Borella (Laguna Beach) and Chauncey Woolridge (Santa Ana). The three-day tournament features high school and community college players on 18 teams from throughout the nation competing in the men’s and women’s gyms at Fullerton. General admission is $4 each day. Friday’s first-round pairings:

Men’s gym: 11 a.m.--Utah No. 1 vs. Kentucky; 12:30 p.m.--Los Angeles No. 1 vs. San Jose; 2--Utah No. 2 vs. San Francisco; 3:30--Texas vs. Orange County No. 2; 5--Oregon vs. Orange County No. 1; 6:30--Nevada vs. Los Angeles No. 3; 8--Texas vs. Washington; 9:30--Utah No. 2 vs. Orange County No. 2; 11--Los Angeles No. 2 vs. Inland.

Women’s gym: 11 a.m.--Los Angeles No. 2 vs. Sacramento; 12:30 p.m.--Oregon vs. Inland; 2--Washington vs. Orange County No. 1; 3:30--San Fernando Valley vs. Nevada; 5--West LA vs. Los Angeles No. 3; 6:30--San Jose vs. Kentucky; 8--Utah No. 1 vs. Los Angeles No. 1; 9:30--San Francisco vs. Sacramento; 11--West LA vs. San Fernando Valley.
