World IN BRIEF : AFGHANISTAN : Guerrillas Capture Town in Southeast

The Afghan government conceded the loss of the town of Khost and observed a day of mourning for soldiers killed there. Khost, about 100 miles south-southeast of Kabul, was taken by Muslim guerrillas Sunday after 17 days of fighting. It was the first significant military victory for the guerrillas since the last Soviet troops withdrew in February, 1989.
