Pasadena’s Cole Hogs the Spotlight, Gets Heat
Ever mindful of who gets credit for what, Pasadena city directors rapped the knuckles of colleague Rick Cole recently for his March press conference that upstaged the mayor, a fellow director and the city manager.
“Perhaps I overstepped my bounds,” Cole conceded when it was over.
Seems that Cole was struck by 1991 census figures that portrayed whites as a minority in Pasadena, while the Latino and Asian population had grown. He called a press conference to comment on it, ignoring City Director William Paparian who had worked with city officials last year on the census.
“You kind of upstaged the person (who) on behalf of the board who has put hours and hours of time on this matter,” City Director William Thomson told Cole.
CHANGING OF THE GUARD: The City Council of Temple City elected Mayor Pro Tem Cathe Wilson to a one-year term as mayor Tuesday, replacing Thomas Breazeal, who continues as a councilman.
The council also selected Councilwoman Bobbie McGowan as the new mayor pro tem.
FORUM: Rep. Carlos J. Moorhead(R-Glendale) will conduct a town meeting to discuss national issues and answer constituents’ questions at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Beckman Institute Auditorium at Caltech.
