Sharpton’s Visit

In the wake of the unfortunate Rodney King incident, it is sad that in addition to universal condemnation, the residents of Los Angeles must now endure the obligatory parade of the self-righteous. The citizens of Los Angeles, black and otherwise, deserve better.

The Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are two who wasted no time in getting their positions before the cameras. Their penchant for publicity and their ability to manage and exploit divisive, emotional issues have made their appearances in this matter fait accompli . They are two among many who possess a perverse self-interest in the constant exploitation of racism; for them, any happy remedy cannot be considered.

I hope that our city is not swayed by these or any other political “handymen” who travel the countryside promoting solutions to problems they don’t have to live with.
