OJAI : Broader Disclosure Rules Under Study
The Ojai City Council may require more city officials to file financial statements and report gifts worth at least $50.
City Atty. Monte L. Widders said the move does not reflect on any official’s conduct.
He said the city’s conflict-of-interest code needs updating to cover more officials.
Although state law requires certain officials to list gifts worth $250 or more, Widders said it should be stricter in Ojai due to the smaller scale of city business.
The city code was adopted in 1976 and amended several times until 1982. Disclosures now are filed by City Council members, planning commissioners, redevelopment commissioners and the city’s manager, attorney, treasurer and public works director.
Those who would be added are the directors of Ojai’s finance, planning and recreation departments, the city engineer and five members of the Historical Preservation Commission.
