COUNTYWIDE : Stanton Official Given Waste Post
The County Board of Supervisors has appointed Stanton Councilman David John Shawver to the Orange County Waste Management Commission as the representative for the second district.
Shawver will serve a three-year term on the commission, whose 19 members act as advisers to the supervisors on all matters involving solid waste.
Shawver was recommended by Supervisor Harriett M. Wieder because of his background in waste management, recycling, landfill and transfer-station operations. Shawver is director of the Orange County Sanitation Districts.
Since being elected to the Stanton council in 1988, Shawver has worked with neighboring cities on the development of a plan to implement Assembly Bill 939, which mandates an increase in recycling and reduction in waste. He has also been involved in plans for a major recycling center in for Stanton.
