SORRY: There’s a limit to hospitality at the posh Center Club, where Japanese government and business officials dined and conferred Wednesday night. . . . The Japanese wanted ashtrays on the table, but manager Joe Gatto declined to provide them. “Here in Orange County, people don’t smoke while they eat,” he explained. . . . A request for menus printed in Japanese also went for naught, but only because there wasn’t enough time to print a translation.

Center Club--A Newswatch item Thursday incorrectly described dinner arrangements for Japanese prime minister Toshiki Kaifu and local Japanese businessmen. A request by the Japanese for ashtrays on the table at the Center Club in Costa Mesa Wednesday night was honored by manager Joe Gatto.
