HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Aragon, Channel Islands Rebound Again
Channel Islands High pitcher Angel Aragon believes he is at an advantage when his team is at a disadvantage.
Camarillo tagged Aragon for two runs in the first inning of a Marmonte League game at Channel Islands on Wednesday. But the junior right-hander shut down Camarillo the rest of the way and Channel Islands rallied for a 5-2 victory.
“When I get ahead early, I tend to get lazy and fall behind on the count,” said Aragon (5-0), who has given up a run in the first inning in three of his five starts. “When we’re trailing, it gives me more incentive.”
Aragon also doubled home the go-ahead run during a three-run fifth inning that gave Channel Islands a 5-2 lead. Aragon, who threw 109 pitches, allowed five hits through the first two innings but only one thereafter. He struck out the side in the third and had a strikeout in every inning but the fourth.
Channel Islands (8-1, 3-0), which has come from behind in four of its victories, tied the score, 2-2, on a solo home run by Jeff Palmer in the fourth inning.
Jacob Cruz singled to start the fifth inning and scored on Aragon’s double. Aragon scored on a sacrifice fly after reaching third on a balk by starter Dan Haas (4-2). Tajah Merrill scored on a double by Jose Gastelum.
