WORLD IN BRIEF : PERU : New Quake Hits Site of Killer Temblor

A strong earthquake struck northern Peru in the same jungle region where a killer quake struck last year, officials said. The tremor caused roofs to collapse in one northern town, said the Peruvian Geophysics Institute. Radio reports said at least one person was injured. Officials said the magnitude 5.5 quake was centered 30 miles south of Moyobamba, in a mountainous area 400 miles north of the capital, Lima. A magnitude 6.5 quake in the area on May 30, 1990, killed 67 people.
