Chevron to Invest in Canadian Plant: The company said its Canadian subsidiary will buy a one-third interest in Alberta Environfuels, a joint venture company that is building a plant to produce methyl tertiary butyl ether, a key component of cleaner-burning gasoline. The $350-million plant will be ready in Edmonton, Alberta, by year-end. Chevron’s U.S. subsidiary will use the MTBE to make gasoline to meet the requirements of the Clean Air Act. MTBE is in short supply. Much of it is made by Arco Chemical Co., partly owned by Atlantic Richfield Co.
