DWP Van Strikes, Kills Pedestrian in Van Nuys
A Los Angeles Department of Water and Power van struck and killed a pedestrian in Van Nuys, Los Angeles police said Friday.
Ghazoros Kalpakyan of Van Nuys was walking north across Victory Boulevard at Orion Avenue about 3:45 p.m. Thursday when he was struck by the van driven by Ronald Hilmer, 33, of Acton, a city employee. Hilmer was not cited, police said.
Witnesses told police that Kalpakyan stepped off the curb and then stopped in front of the van, Officer Joanna Needham said. Kalpakyan, whose age was not available, was not in a crosswalk when he was struck, Needham said.
