Probe of ‘Keating 5’ Was a Waste of Time

The Senate Ethics Committee’s 17-month-long investigation was a big farce. What a shock to know the “Keating Five” only got a slap on the wrist, “Ethics Panel Says Cranston Broke Rules in Keating Ties” (Feb. 28).

I am a 65-year-old Lincoln Savings & Loan bondholder. I bought my bonds as an investment toward my retirement income. Now I’m retired, and I woke up one day to find that my money was gone.

I was told by the salesperson those bonds were safe and insured. He was wrong! This is a great loss to me. It would take me another lifetime to save another $40,000.

Now I know how my parents felt when they lost all their money in the 1929 Crash. How can (former thrift owner Charles H. Keating Jr.) and all his associates sleep nights? This was one of the biggest robberies of all time.
