Call for Repeat Rapists’ Castration

Who says Republican conservatives aren’t sensitive to women’s issues (“O.C. Legislators Often Fatalistic as Bill-Writers,” March 24)? Assemblyman Gil Ferguson’s bill to allow castration of repeat rapists will do more to stop this vile crime than two decades of teach-ins, awareness seminars, self-esteem committees or any other liberal “solution,” however well intended.

We, the public, continue to vote for candidates who claim to be tough on crime and get nothing of substance.

Here, for a change, is a solid solution for dealing with hardened criminals of the worse kind. This is legislation that deserves our support. It will be interesting to see, however, whether the self-proclaimed “women’s-rights” advocates support Ferguson’s bill to castrate repeat rapists.
