World IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Official Reportedly Fired for Iraq Stand
The White House has ordered the firing of a Commerce Department official for telling Congress that the Administration ignored warnings to limit the export of technology to Iraq before the invasion of Kuwait, the New York Times reported. The paper quoted an unnamed Administration official as saying that Dennis Kloske, undersecretary for export administration, should be removed from the payroll by June 1. The White House and Administration denied that a resignation has been requested. Kloske told a House subcommittee Monday that the Administration and the State Department had disregarded his recommendations a year ago to reduce the flow of advance technology to Iraq.
