Life in the Fast Freeway Lanes

* In a letter to The Times (“Blink of Eye May Miss Something,” April 7), a woman referred to herself as a “legitimate car-pooler” because she carried her 15-month-old daughter with her.

The purpose of the car-pool lanes, as I understand it, is to encourage as many drivers as possible to leave their cars at home and ride with others, thereby reducing the number of cars on the freeways.

Since a 15-month-old child cannot drive a car on the freeway (or any other place) her mother is not a legitimate car-pooler.
