LOS PADRES FOREST : Oxnard Boy, 13, Dies From Head Injuries After 100-Foot Fall
A 13-year-old Oxnard youth fell to his death Saturday afternoon while hiking in Los Padres National Forest, authorities said.
Sean Rhodes was climbing the Rose Valley Falls with two other people shortly before 12:30 p.m. Saturday when he slipped and fell about 100 feet, Lt. Mike Gullon of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said.
Sean died of head injuries and was pronounced dead at 1:10 p.m., Deputy Coroner Mitch Breese said.
Sean had been camping with his family. He and two other family members had decided to go hiking, Gullon said. The three had started climbing, and Sean had decided to go higher than the other two, Gullon said.
“He kept on climbing to a point where he couldn’t climb any higher and the two people saw him slip and fall,” Gullon said.
