Maurice Binder, 72, who designed the innovative, erotic title sequences for James Bond films. The New York native began his career designing advertisements and catalogues for Macy’s department store, and later created advertisements and lobby posters for films by Universal and Columbia. He first created film titles for producer Stanley Donen in such classics as “Indiscreet” and “Charade.” Asked to do the titles for the first Bond film, “Dr. No,” in 1962, Binder hastily scribbled the idea that became the internationally recognized symbol for the Bond series--a gun barrel turning to fire at the camera, with sensuous women floating in and around the credits.
