World IN BRIEF : ITALY : Party Quits Coalition Before It Is Sworn In

A small party pulled out of Italy’s 50th postwar government even before Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti’s new coalition Cabinet was sworn in. Andreotti took office anyway, despite the walkout by his old Republican Party. Party leader Giorgio La Malfa accused Andreotti of failing to keep a promise that the Republicans would keep the three ministries they had held in the previous government.
