Borders Takes Saugus Main
Mal Borders of Tujunga won the main event in Outlaw Mini Stocks on Saturday night at the Saugus Speedway. All three of the top finishers were on the final lap of the 20-lap race together, and Kenny Smith of El Monte won a close battle for second with Burbank’s Rick Galbraith. Jack Sanders of Saugus won the 15-lap main event in the new Hollywood Stuntmen Division, in which two people ride in each car. Bruce Dorn of Jackson Hole, Wyo., finished second, ahead of Canyon Country’s Glenn Necessary.
Ron Cerven of Lancaster triumphed in the 25-lap Hobby Stock main event. Mark Miller of Chatsworth came in second, and Bob Vigil of Lancaster finished third.
John Fleming of Simi Valley prevailed in the Jalopy main event that was marked by two yellow flags. Jerry Carfley of Sepulveda was second, and Joey Gerdano of Saugus was third.
Trophy dash winners included: Lance Hooper of Palmdale (Sportsman), Smith (MSRA), Miller (Hobby Stock), Fleming (Jalopy), Sanders (Stuntman) and Mike McAntee of North Hollywood (Figure-8 Hobby Stock).
