BASEBALL REPORT DAILY UPDATE : ANGELS : Henderson Might Not Play Tonight
Rickey Henderson, who is two steals from breaking Lou Brock’s record of 938, was out of the Oakland Athletics’ starting lineup Sunday night. He has a strained left calf muscle.
“I think he’s going to miss several more games,” A’s Manager Tony La Russa said. Oakland plays at Anaheim Stadium tonight.
First baseman Wally Joyner received treatment for tightness in a groin muscle, but he called it a minor problem. “It’s tight, not a pull,” said Joyner, who has a .400 batting average (eight for 20). “I felt it (Saturday) when I was turning third on (Dave) Winfield’s single. I’m capable of playing, but I’m not going to push it.”. . . The Angels are 5-0 when they score first. . . . Approximately 37,000 tickets had been sold for tonight’s opener before the box office opened Sunday. The record attendance for a home opener is 45,586, set on April 8, 1988, against Oakland.
