BASEBALL REPORT : DAILY UPDATE : ANGELS : Henderson’s Return Put on Hold
Rickey Henderson probably will miss the Oakland Athletics’ four-game series against the Angels because of a strained left calf muscle, delaying his pursuit of Lou Brock’s stolen-base record.
Henderson, who is one away from the record of 938, missed his fourth consecutive game Monday. Oakland trainer Barry Weinberg said Henderson will be re-evaluated after the A’s leave Anaheim. “The next checkpoint will be Friday, and then we’ll see how close he is to playing,” Weinberg said.
Weinberg also said shortstop Walt Weiss will be sidelined at least seven days because of a strained right hamstring. Mike Gallego replaced Weiss Monday night.
