Film Pact Rejected: New York’s $2.5-billion movie-making industry suffered a blow Monday when film workers who labor behind the scenes rejected a proposed contract with Hollywood producers. The rejection by Local 52 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and Moving Picture Machine Operators prolongs an impasse that has put a virtual stop to major film making in the Big Apple and could cost the city its summertime movie-making business. Union members voted down the contract 606-393 in mail-in ballots. Many union members opposed provisions giving producers reductions in overtime and weekend pay in return for higher health and pension benefits.
