OXNARD : Council Adopts Plan to Ration Water Use
Oxnard became the last of Ventura County’s major cities to adopt a water-rationing plan Tuesday when the City Council adopted a program aimed at reducing water use by 15%.
The council voted 4 to 1 to adopt a program limiting residents to 85 gallons a day per person. Each house or building will receive an additional 57 gallons per day for landscaping.
The city will determine the number of residents per household through mailed questionnaires.
Apartment and condominium complexes with more than one building will receive an extra 15 gallons per day for each additional building.
Commercial, industrial and agricultural customers will have to cut water use by 15% of their usage in 1990.
Councilman Michael Plisky cast the dissenting vote, saying the program is too harsh since Oxnard already has the lowest per-capita use in the county.
Oxnard joins Ventura, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley and Moorpark in placing restrictions on water use. Fillmore, Santa Paula, Ojai and Port Hueneme have no immediate plans to impose restrictions.
