Children who live near Tarzana Park don’t think of it as a public recreation facility. They think of it as a piece of their own back yards.
“The kids come here after school and it’s like one big, happy family,” said Henry Doyle, child-care director at Tarzana Park for five years.
The park’s after-school program takes children from Wilbur, Tarzana and Vanalden elementary schools and Sherman Oaks Magnet School.
In addition to the after-school program, residents enjoy the park’s full-size indoor gymnasium, which houses several youth and adult basketball leagues.
