Texas Instruments Inc.: The Dallas electronics giant said it lost $54 million in the first quarter, contrasted with a profit of $13 million in the year-ago quarter. Revenue rose 9% to $1.68 billion. The company said a major factor in the loss was a decision to invest more funds in plant and equipment and on research and development.
