Inland Steel Industries Inc.: The Chicago-based company reported a first-quarter loss of $40 million, contrasted with earnings of $18.7 million in the year-ago period. The company said steel shipments fell to the lowest level in 20 years during the quarter. Sales plummeted 18% to $832.7 million.
