Year-Round School Schedule Is Delayed in Palmdale
The Antelope Valley Union High School District board of trustees has voted to delay for at least a year launching the district’s first year-round education program at Highland High School in west Palmdale.
The campus, one of six in the 10,000-student district, was scheduled to go year-round starting in July. But the district board decided Wednesday that the campus will instead resume classes on a traditional calendar in September.
District officials cited concerns about the cost of the switch at a time when the district faces a funding shortfall of more than $2 million because of state budget cuts. Also, permanent buildings to replace bungalows on campus will not be ready by July.
