Loyola Plays Host to San Diego in WCC Series
The Loyola Marymount baseball team plays host to the University of San Diego in a West Coast Conference series starting today at Page Stadium.
The teams will play a three-game series and complete a game that was suspended because of darkness last month in San Diego. The suspended game and the opener of the series will be played today starting at 1 p.m. On Saturday, the teams will play a doubleheader starting at noon.
The Lions trail WCC leader Pepperdine by 2 1/2 games, but are five games behind in the loss column. After Saturday’s doubleheader, the Lions start a nine-game road trip. Loyola’s next home game is May 12. Loyola (25-17 overall, 15-8 in WCC play) has a 10-12 road record.
The Toreros swept a three-game series against Nevada last weekend, breaking an eight-game WCC losing streak.
Last month in San Diego the Toreros (16-23, 9-13) took two in a row from the Lions, who lead the WCC in batting with a team average of .317. They also have 45 home runs and 274 runs batted in, which lead the WCC by wide margins.
San Diego has a team average of .261 with 18 homers.
