COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UCI Beats CS Northridge in Tennis
UC Irvine won four singles matches and two doubles as the Anteaters defeated Cal State Northridge, 6-3, in a nonconference women’s tennis match at UC Irvine.
Sophomore Ali Yoshimoto won her 15th consecutive singles match. She beat Michelle Reed, 6-1, 6-3, to improve to 22-8. Yoshimoto has won 16 of her last 17 matches.
In other singles’ matches, Kelly Goldsborough won, 6-2, 6-3, Biljana Korac won, 6-1, 6-3 and Stacey Cadigan won, 6-1, 6-0, for UC Irvine (15-11). It was Irvine’s final home match of the season.
Yoshimoto and Cadigan teamed in doubles to win, 6-2, 6-3, and teammates Jennifer Wall and Jennifer Mazgedian also won, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
Irvine plays in the Big West Conference championships April 25-27 at the Ojai Racquet Club.
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. baseball:
UC Riverside 4, Chapman 2--Ron Cody (4-3) allowed eight hits in eight innings for visiting Riverside (22-17-1, 9-7) at Hart Park in Orange.
Chapman scored a run in the first, but Riverside scored three in the fifth and another in the sixth. Doug Yates and James Merriweather had two hits each for Chapman (9-29, 5-14).
