Westlake 1, Simi Valley 0--Michele Castonguay (8-2) threw a one-hitter for Simi Valley (14-4, 6-3) but suffered the loss on an unearned run in a Marmonte League game at Westlake. Robin Connell walked in the first and scored on an error.
Saugus 6, Antelope Valley 3--Christina Schlender hit a solo home run, her second, to lead host Saugus (9-7, 2-2) in a Golden League game.
Alemany 6, Bell-Jeff--Krista Gomez had two hits and Tanya Ortiz tossed a three-hitter to lead host Alemany (12-2) in a nonleague game. Ortiz struck out six and improved to 3-0.
North Hollywood 25, Poly 7--Maria Vasquez hit a grand slam for host North Hollywood (5-4, 3-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.
Moorpark 2, St. Bonaventure 1--Soli Barrera of Moorpark (11-4, 4-0) scored on a ground ball in the fourth, breaking a 1-1 tie in a matchup of unbeaten Tri-Valley League teams.
Crescenta Valley 28, Muir 0--Tricia Beer (1-0) pitched a one-hitter and struck out 11 in her first start for Crescenta Valley (18-1, 4-0) in a Pacific League game. Jaime Klotthor had three hits and five RBIs.
Hart 6, Burbank Burroughs 0--Krissy Carpenter allowed three hits and struck out eight to lead host Hart (10-2, 4-0) in a Foothill League game. Heather Medearis had two hits, two RBIs, and scored two runs.
BASEBALL
Kennedy 8, Taft 2--John Davis was four for four with two doubles, and sophomores Jeff Tagliaferri, Rick Nadeau, and David Bourne each had two hits for Kennedy in the Northwest Valley Conference game.
Monroe 5, Grant 2--Sophomore right-hander Jorge Dorado (4-1) threw a six-hitter, struck out five and walked four in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Monroe. Dorado allowed one earned run and outdueled Grant’s Holvik Castro, who allowed three hits.
Birmingham 9, Sylmar 8--Senior third baseman Brandon Bailey, Birmingham’s No. 9 batter, hit two home runs as Birmingham (7-10, 5-5) upset Sylmar (13-5, 9-2) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.
San Fernando 9, Reseda 1--Canto Franco (3-4) faced the minimum number of batters in his five innings as host San Fernando (10-8, 7-4) rolled to a Northwest Valley Conference win. Art Tarin went three for four with three RBIs for San Fernando.
Poly 16, Van Nuys 0--Rodrigo Dorame (3-0) walked none and struck out nine for host Poly (18-1, 11-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference win. Robert Aros doubled twice and Steve Chavez drove in two runs.
Faith Baptist 15, Campbell Hall 0--Alex Estrada (3-1) allowed three hits over five innings and hit his fifth home run for Campbell Hall (9-4, 3-0) in a Delphic League game.
