2-Day Strike Presses for Cameroon Reform

YAOUNDE, Cameroon — A general strike called to force President Paul Biya to introduce democratic reforms virtually shut down Cameroon’s economic capital Douala for the second straight day Friday, and troops were redeployed at the country’s main university.
The two-day strike is designed to put pressure on Biya to call a national political conference to chart Cameroon’s transition to multi-party politics.
