CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE : Earth Day Observance Planned
The San Fernando Valley’s Earth Day observance today at Cal State Northridge will focus on local and global environmental concerns.
Beginning at 10 a.m., visitors will be able to view exhibits from 45 organizations, including Save Our Sylmar, Coalition for Clean Air, the California Vegetarian Society, Sierra Club and Citizens for a Better Environment. Several schools and youth organizations as well as Los Angeles city and county departments also scheduled to participate.
The Santa Susana Mountains, Sepulveda Basin and recycling will be among topics of speakers during a program beginning at 11 a.m.
Actor Dick Van Dyke will be master of ceremonies. Bluegrass music also is planned.
Guided bird and cultural walks and video presentations on topics that range from the Santa Monica Mountains and Sunshine Canyon to the rain forests and world population are scheduled throughout the day.
The event is sponsored by the San Fernando Valley Environmental and the CSUN Earth Day coalitions.
