Fallbrook
A man suspected of shooting at another man in Fallbrook Saturday was struck and injured by a county sheriff’s patrol car after he apparently pulled a gun on the pursuing officer.
The suspect, who refused to give his name to officers, was struck and run over by a patrol car driven by Deputy Jim McClain. McClain and Deputy David Love had been pursuing the man in an apartment parking lot near Old Stage Road and Vine Street when the suspect ran toward McClain’s car and reached for a gun. A .357-magnum was found in his hand when he was arrested, deputies said.
The man, in his 20s, was taken to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido for treatment for a concussion and a crushed right arm.
McClain and Love had been called to the area by Bias Maldonado, who said he was about to enter a house in the neighborhood when the suspect approached, drew a gun and fired one shot at him. Maldonado was not hit.
