For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen on what to do in the garden this week:

* Plant dwarf dahlias now for summer color and dahlia tubers for fall color.

* Give lawns a spring feeding now. They will green up within a week of being fed. Your nursery can recommend the proper lawn food for the type of turf you have.

* Herbs can be grown in the garden or indoors in a sunny location. Pots of herbs can be used to decorate around the barbecue besides being close at hand to add delicious flavor to the food you cook outdoors.

* Shady areas of the garden can be spruced up with the delightful blooms of fibrous begonias, lobelia, or impatiens.
