Cheney to Close More Bases
Mayor Lance McClair of Seaside, Calif., should get an award for being the confused elected official of the year.
This Navy veteran is complaining (front page, April 13) about the announced closing of Ft. Ord, which is located on his political turf, and invokes the memory of the so-called “peace dividend” to stop it!
If the peace dividend could have been used to enhance Pentagon business, the Bush Administration wouldn’t have needed the war in the Persian Gulf.
Ft. Ord exists because of the “war dividend”! That dividend has been keeping all kinds of operators in business at least since the Korean War.
