Health Insurance
As a mother, engineer and owner of a small aerospace company, I am writing to relate our horror story with regard to health insurance.
Approximately one year ago my husband broke his elbow. Shortly after that I received a notice from my insurance company that our rate was increasing from $642 a month to $1,450 a month. When I asked why, they told me that we had too many claims. Since my husband has a pre-existing eye condition, we were unable to obtain health insurance by any carrier in California.
The conclusion to which I have come is that there is no health insurance in California for anyone who needs it.
The time has come for change. Even more important than auto insurance, the need for reform in the health care industry is long overdue. The AMA and other lobbying organizations are going to have to accept the fact that health care is not a privilege for the healthy few who manage to qualify both medically and, seemingly more importantly, financially for it.
