Cheney to Close More Bases
Regarding Cheney’s briefing to the media on April 12 concerning the closure of existing military bases:
The American taxpayer is continually advised that social needs exist requiring massive infusions of public funds.
(1) Inadequate prison space must be expanded to meet the increasing rate of new incarcerations.
(2) Public educational funding is too low to build additional facilities.
(3) Homelessness has not been addressed.
It would seem more cost-effective to direct some of the above needs into bases scheduled for closure. The physical plant of the bases is specifically designed to house and serve the needs of a human population. Some upfront modifications would probably be required but this would seem to represent a lower capital outlay than the next positive option.
