Gunman on Motorcycle Kills Man
A San Pedro man was shot to death a few blocks from his home early Wednesday by one of two men riding a motorcycle through a neighborhood north of downtown, police said.
Killed in the unexplained shooting was Patrick Collins, 25, homicide Detective Larry Kallestadt said.
Kallestadt said Collins and a friend were returning from a neighborhood market just before 1 a.m. when a motorcycle carrying two men sped past in the 200 block of 2nd Street.
Without warning, one of the men on the motorcycle opened fire on the pedestrians, striking Collins once in the chest and spraying several parked cars with gunfire. Collins was pronounced dead at San Pedro Peninsula Hospital. His companion was not injured.
Kallestadt said no arrests had been made in the case, and police had not established a motive for the shooting.
