HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Silva, Montgomery Defeat Mar Vista, 16-2
David Silvas pitched five shutout innings en route to top-ranked Montgomery’s 16-2 Metro Conference baseball victory Wednesday at Mar Vista. It was his second start and second victory and when he was pulled with the Aztecs leading 15-0 in the fifth, the 11th consecutive scoreless inning he’s pitched in two weeks.
Montgomery improved to 16-1-1, 8-0.
In other Metro Conference games:
Chula Vista 2, Castle Park 0--Chula Vista (10-7, 6-1) scored two unearned runs to upset sixth-ranked Castle Park (14-5, 5-2). David McVey had two hits for Chula Vista; Vico Moreno had two for Castle Park.
Southwest 9, Bonita Vista 4--Alex Magallenes went three for three and scored twice for Southwest (4-9, 2-6). Bonita Vista is 2-13-5, 2-5-1.
City Eastern League
Point Loma 3, Patrick Henry 1--Nello Marciel went three for three with one RBI and Josh Serrano (4-1) scattered six hits for Point Loma (10-9, 3-2).
Serra 9, Morse 1--Junior David Cobler (4-2) allowed five hits and one unearned run.
City Central League
Lincoln 8, Hoover 7--Darren Hall and Tobias Price combined for a three-hitter and 13 strikeouts to lead Lincoln (7-11, 2-3).
San Diego 4, Crawford 3--In the race for the league lead, Carlos Rivera, on an 0-2 pitch, drove in the winning run with a one-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth.
City Western League
University City 14, La Jolla 7--Mike Saipe had three hits and Ben Mohr had two, and each homered and drove in two runs to lead University City, which scored eight runs on 10 hits in the final two innings. La Jolla dropped to 10-6, 1-4.
USDHS 5, Kearny 1--Kevin McDonald pitched a three-hitter and struck out 11 to lead USDHS, which scored five unearned runs on five Kearny errors.
