FCC Fine: A rock ‘n’ roll radio station in St. Louis has been fined $25,000 for broadcasting a mock warning of a nuclear attack during the Persian Gulf War. The Federal Communications Commission announced the fine Wednesday, saying KSHE’s stunt could have caused widespread panic. The mock warning was broadcast Jan 29. Disc jockey John Ulett said the United States was under nuclear attack, and a tone like the signal used with Emergency Broadcasting System notices was heard in the background. The station said Ulett played the announcement without the knowledge of station management; he was suspended for a week.
