Computer Companies: Data General Corp. reported second-quarter net income of $19.2 million, contrasted with a net loss of $8.6 million for the year-ago period. Revenue for the Westboro, Mass.-based firm was $320.4 million, up 2% from last year’s $314.8 million. Unisys Corp. reported a first-quarter net loss of $98.2 million, compared to a loss of $3.2 million in the year-ago period. Revenue was $2.06 billion, compared to last year’s $2.31 billion. The Blue Bell, Pa.-based company said the weak economic environment in its major markets around the world “has resulted in a general slowdown in computer industry demand.” Compaq Computer Corp. reported first-quarter net income of $114 million, a 24% increase from $92 million in the year-ago period. Sales were $971 million, an 11% increase over last year’s $872 million. The Houston-based company said international revenue increased 16% over last year and made up 59% of first-quarter revenue. Western Digital Corp. reported a third-quarter loss of $10.8 million, contrasted with a profit of $8.8 million in the year-ago quarter. Revenue fell 14% to $247.1 million. The Irvine-based company said the loss was the result of a restructuring effort that it launched in late 1990.
