One man was hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds in the stomach after he and two other men were attacked by a group of teen-agers in Fallbrook on Wednesday night, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said.

Eduardo Serrano, 23, was taken by Life Flight helicopter to Palomar Medical Center, where he was in serious but stable condition Thursday, a hospital spokeswoman said. Magdaleno Alvarez, 24, was treated for a gunshot wound in the leg and released.

Jose Esquivel, 24, of Fallbrook told deputies that he and Alvarez had been walking down the street when they were confronted by three youths between the ages of 15 and 19, Deputy Pearl Janulewicz said.

Words were exchanged, and an altercation began. Esquivel then went home to get Serrano, who is his brother, Janulewicz said.

When the men returned, one of the teen-agers pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds at the three, Janulewicz said.

Investigators know no motive for the shooting, Janulewicz said. He said none of the men knew the assailants.
