A San Clemente police officer pleaded innocent Thursday to charges that he raped a woman and assaulted two others.

David Wayne Bryan, 32, entered the not guilty plea before Municipal Judge Pamela L. Iles after he was arraigned on 13 charges including rape, sexual battery and assault and battery by an officer. Bryan is free on $50,000 bail and is scheduled to appear at a pretrial hearing on May 15 in Municipal Court in Laguna Niguel.

Outside the court, Bryan’s attorney, Leonard Gumlia, said his client knew all three women. Deputy Dist. Atty. Jan C. Sturla said that Bryan was acquainted with the women but that the women did not know each other.

Bryan was suspended after a Jan. 30 complaint by a woman who said she had gone to Bryan’s San Clemente home and was raped. Two women who read newspaper articles about an unnamed San Clemente officer under investigation for date rape later reported to police that Bryan assaulted them in their home, prosecutors said.
