John L. Waymire; Anti-Terrorist Expert

John L. Waymire, 49, an internationally known anti-terrorist expert who investigated fraud in U.S. foreign aid programs in Southeast Asia. In the late 1970s, Waymire became a foreign service officer with the State Department in the Inspector General’s Office investigating fraud and corruption in U.S. foreign aid programs in Southeast Asia. Before joining the State Department, Waymire worked for the Dade County, Fla., Metropolitan Police Department in the late 1960s and became the first director of the Organized Crime Strike Force of South Florida. He left the State Department to become a consultant to other countries for the U.S. Anti-Terrorist Assistant Program where he designed and taught anti-terrorist courses to foreign police forces. In a Knoxville, Tenn., hospital on Sunday. A Knoxville newspaper said he had cancer.
