HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : SOFTBALL

Hoover 14, Muir 0--Nancy Evans (11-3) fired her first perfect game and third no-hitter of the season as visiting Hoover (11-3, 4-2) rolled to a Pacific League win. Evans struck out 16 and walked none.

Crescenta Valley 5, Pasadena 0--Stacy Atwood pitched a two-hitter and struck out eight in the Pacific League game. The shutout was the 13th for Atwood (18-0) and lowered her earned-run average to 0.30. Crescenta Valley is 21-2 overall, and 6-0 in league play.

Hart 3, Schurr 0--Krissy Carpenter of Hart gave up a bunt single to start the Foothill League game at Schurr, then retired the next 21 batters she faced.

Carpenter (13-2) struck out 10 as Hart improved to 14-2, 6-0 in league play.

Sylmar 4, Van Nuys 2--Judy Lara and Monica Cruz scored on a Van Nuys throwing error in the 10th inning as visiting Sylmar (13-0, 8-0) won a Valley Pac-8 Conference game. Ruby Gonzalez (9-0) struck out 11 and walked two.

Canyon 4, Ridgecrest Burroughs 1--Marianne Winchester of Canyon (8-3) threw a five-hitter and struck out six for the host Cowboys (11-6, 4-2) in the Golden League game. Cyna Schuster’s two-run triple capped Canyon’s three-run fifth inning.

Granada Hills 4, Chatsworth 3--Jeanine Jux scored on a throwing error to cap a three-run rally in the seventh inning and lift Granada Hills (9-2, 8-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference game at Chatsworth.

BASEBALL

Poly 7, Grant 1--Rodrigo Dorame and Jake Loveridge scattered four hits to lead Poly in an East Valley League game at Grant. Dorame (4-0) struck out six and walked three over six innings. Francisco Flores hit a solo home run in the sixth for Poly (20-1, 13-0), which has won 18 games in a row.

Pete Chong had two hits for Grant (9-11, 7-6).

Cleveland 6, Kennedy 1--Junior left-hander Mike Petruzates allowed two hits in the first inning and just two thereafter as Cleveland upset North Valley League-leading Kennedy at Cleveland.

Petruzates (3-2) struck out five and walked two.

Chatsworth 13, Taft 0--Mitch Root was three for four and hit a two-run homer in the sixth to lead Chatsworth in a West Valley League game at Taft.

El Camino Real 18, Reseda 0--Greg Lederman was five for five with four doubles to spearhead a 21-hit attack in a West Valley League game at El Camino Real (10-6, 8-5).

Sylmar 23, North Hollywood 7--Terry Thorpe hit a grand slam and a two-run single for visiting Sylmar in an East Valley League game. James Encinas added three hits and scored twice for Sylmar (15-5, 11-2).

Monroe 7, Van Nuys 1--Adrian Loverich tossed a six-hitter as Monroe (10-6, 8-5) won a Valley Pac-8 Conference game. Christian Ascencio doubled twice and drove in three runs for the Vikings.

Royal 16, Agoura 3--Dave Landaker went four for five with two doubles and two RBIs and Richard Naranjo and Steve Talafuse each had three hits and three RBIs as Royal (13-4, 4-4) rolled to a Marmonte League win. Paul Taylor (2-1) picked up the win.
